About TCGAKKI

Our store began in 1989 as a small store called Smash Hits, which was built in a renovated former studio in Yutenji, Tokyo. Originally, as a sibling store to Hyper Guitars, we mainly sold Fender, Gibson, and Bizarre instruments from the 70's onward. When the store moved to Shin-Okubo (current location), it was renamed "THE used music store" and operated out of a 6- and 12-mat room on the second floor of an old apartment building with a pachinko parlor on the first floor. It was a few years after moving to the current building that we changed the name to TCGAKKI.

As a specialty store for used and vintage musical instruments, we currently carry approximately 6500 items ranging from guitars/Bass/acoustic guitars to wind instruments/Japanese instruments. Each sales floor is staffed by specialists with a career spanning more than 20 years, who provide expert consultation and assistance in assessing used musical instruments, as well as customers' hopes, concerns, and requests.

Advance Guitars" is an independent store from TCGAKKI specializing in vintage acoustic guitars, and was the first Japanese music store to publish a Gibson reference book in 2023.
In 2013, "Okubo Gakki" started as an independent store specializing in used and vintage wind instruments, and now handles products from many countries as a domestic and international distributor.

The term "Japan Vintage" was coined by our staff in the 80's to distinguish it from US vintage instruments purchased at guitar shows in the U.S. Our staff at the time, who quickly discovered the high quality of Japanese instruments, began using this name with respect. The "Ishi logo" used in the late 70's by Fernandez, which regrettably closed its business, was also originated from the name "Ishi Nandes" that we used at that time.

Instruments repaired, adjusted, and cleaned by our direct repair team "TC-TUNE" not only appear on our store shelves, but we also adjust/optimize and modify instruments owned by professional and amateur players from our unique perspective and stance.

Our mission is to "make your life a blast with musical instruments.
To this end, we offer the best solutions for those who are not satisfied with their current sound and equipment, or who are looking for something better, from a selection of thousands of products, whether used, vintage, or New. We are actively engaged in daily activities with the aim of realizing "I'm glad I asked" and "I'm glad I consulted with you".

Currently, we are selling new products directly in stores and on the web as an agent for "TMG Guitar" and "Bob Burt" in the U.S., "Organic Sound" in Japan, and many others.

Sell your instruments!

We are looking for customers to purchase musical instruments from us. Musical instruments are not expendable. A great instrument does not lose value the more it is used, but rather its true value is realized through use.
It is not only brand new instruments that are sought after. Because we specialize in used musical instruments, we do not give negative assessments based on appearance alone, but rather maximize the value of the instrument itself. We take full responsibility for the purchase of your treasured instrument so that it can be passed on to the next owner.
